Beginner ballet classes are offered as preballet for age 7-9, ballet 1 for ages 9-11, and teen ballet
for ages 12 and up.
Ballet level 6 is the most advanced preprofessional level offered.
Level 3 is the
introduction to pointe work, or ‘prepointe.’ Pointe work is not a requirement at FSPA, and many students
continue their ballet training without it. Students that begin pointe work however, must be at least 11 years
old, have approval from both an orthopedic doctor and our ballet faculty, and maintain a minimum of 2
technique and pointe classes per week.
Level 3x & higher classes are always followed by an optional
30 minutes of pointe work. Students not on pointe, can be as serious as they want by taking classes
one day per week or five.
All of our ballet classes stress anatomically-correct use of classical ballet technique, while
acknowledging the skeletal structure of each student in order to prevent injuries.
Our syllabus is highly influenced by the Royal Academy of Dance.
Ballet students level 3 and higher are strongly encouraged to also take modern class to
round out their training. Students under 7 years old should take creative movement as the
preface to our ballet program.
